The most important first step in beginning therapy is to be sure that you find a practitioner that is perfect for you, so please keep reading and ask yourself the question…Are We A Good Fit?
There are thousands upon thousands of therapists available and we all have different areas of expertise and operate with slightly contrasting approaches and styles.
What You Need to Know About My Approach
If the first list below gels with you and you don’t resonate so much with the bottom list, then we should talk.
We will work incredibly together and I can help you see amazing results if…
- You’re hungry and committed to your healing and growth.
- You’re committed to meeting once a week to make the changes necessary to reach your goals.
- You’re keen to learn and eager to try new things out.
- You understand that I am not on any insurance panels and accept only out of pocket payment.
- Slow is the new Fast. You understand that I do not provide off-the-shelf quick fixes to life challenges. It is important to expect that you will need to be patient and have realistic expectations for your healing and growth, even if you are in emotional pain and confusion. This can be the most difficult undertaking but your commitment to cultivating patience is essential, in therapy as in life.
Does this sound like you?
If so, excellent. I welcome the opportunity to converse with you by phone to answer your questions and get acquainted in advance of formal work. To schedule your free 20-minute initial phone consultation, click here.
Psychotherapy is most effective when clients make a serious commitment to their healing and transformation. Your active participation and dedication are crucial to your success. I encourage you to attend your sessions regularly and recommend meeting one time per week in most cases. From time to time, I will recommend optional homework in the form of readings, videos, journaling, or simple exercises.
Do you provide distance sessions through video technology?
I find that I can typically offer clients more assistance by seeing them in person, rather than by conducting sessions by phone. However, I do provide video therapy using the video platform called doxy.me when meeting in person is not possible.
IMPORTANT NOTE: By participating in online video or phone sessions, you understand and agree that the words “therapy” and “counseling” are always used to describe online coaching sessions. I explicitly do not offer therapy or counseling via Internet video or through the telephone. Sessions will, however, likely be therapeutic, and sometimes the lines are blurred between what is accomplished in coaching and what is accomplished in therapy.
Each case is unique. In many instances, clients begin to see results immediately. However, quite often, symptoms take time to resolve, and so it can be expected that change may take longer and occur more slowly. The work of psychotherapy is most effective when one makes a serious commitment to their healing and transformation; therefore, it makes the most sense to approach this work with an attitude of patience. Adopting this attitude is the only way to enact real, lasting change. Slow work yields profound benefits.
I offer sessions during the day on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, including occasional evening sessions when I’m available.
The Pioneer Valley is a small community. It’s possible that our paths may cross outside of my office. Your relationship with me is confidential. Feel free to say hello to me or not, whatever is most comfortable for you.
All communication between clients and myself is confidential except in the event that an individual is a danger to him or herself or another person, in which case all counselors are required by law to notify medical and law enforcement agencies for intervention on behalf of the parties involved.
Therapy requires a regular commitment. I do understand that, from time to time, there may be extenuating circumstances that force you to cancel your appointment; however, I request that any cancellation or rescheduling of your appointment be made at least 48 hours in advance, by phone.
If you cancel your session with less than 48 hours notice or are a “no-show”, you will be expected to pay the full agreed upon cost of your session.* If my schedule permits, however, I am happy to work with you to reschedule another time to meet during the same week (Monday-Friday) of your missed appointment so that you will not be required to pay for a missed session. Rescheduling in the same week to avoid paying for a missed session is allowed once during the week in question, and clients are allowed three such reschedules per year.
I value your time and hope that you value mine! Missed appointments or appointments canceled on short notice do affect me and also prevent me from being able to serve others in need.
*Weather conditions, illness, and emergencies are taken into consideration.
If you need to cancel a session, please contact me by phone and leave a message. Please do not communicate about your cancellation through email, text, or social media.
Ending treatment is best when done in a planned, mutually agreed upon way. Stopping treatment without such an arrangement can undermine or “undo” progress that you’ve made in your sessions. You are welcome to return for sessions at any time in the future provided spaces in Jonathan’s practice are available.
My office is located at:
64C Elmwood Court, (on Route.9) in Hadley, MA, 01035
As you turn into Elmwood Court (dead end), the white house immediately to your right on the corner of Route 9 and Elmwood is where you will find my office. Turn into the first driveway on your right, and please park next to the silver Honda Civic in the driveway. Go to the set of side doors and look for the full glass door on the right with the blue frame, which has “64C” and my professional information printed on the glass.
When you arrive, you may come into the waiting area but expect that it may be cool during the winter months or warm during the summer months. Many people are more comfortable waiting in their car until it’s time for their session.
You may request a phone consultation by contacting me through the “Contact” page of my website, or by calling my office at 617-515-0327. If I don’t answer, please leave your name, phone number, and the reason for contacting me. I am generally able to return your call within 24 business hours, often sooner.
